To find myself, I lose myself in inner Light

As we approach summer, the warmth of the earth begins to flower and the green of nature clothes the earth. This week, we feel a strong pull to lose ourselves in this beauty as our senses take in the intoxicating splendor. But we must ground ourselves, and find the light within ourselves rather than out in nature. By doing so, we may lose our lower self, our egoistic desires and impulses, in favor of our higher, spiritual Self.

Recall the Luciferic temptation of being pulled toward the warmth of the external light as articulated in verse 7 a few short weeks ago:

My Self, it threatens to fly away,
To World-light powerfully drawn.
Now you, my prescience (in German: Ahnen)
Step forcefully into your rightful place,
Replace my power of thinking,
Which in the glare of the senses
Wants to lose itself.

Rather than losing ourselves in the glories of nature that now surround us, a Luciferic temptation of the senses and emotions, we center ourselves by firmly planting our feet on the earth and seeking our higher selves through the heart. We then hear our "heart's divining or prescience (in German, Ahnung) calling us to lose our lower selves to find the Light of the World, the Christ, within us.

By seeking the Light within us rather than outside of ourselves, we have the opportunity to evolve the soul despite the influcences of Lucifer and Ahriman. In fact, we use those forces to help us evolve within this world of polarity and rhythms.

Practice the Calendar verses to entrain with the rhythms of the seasons. Together, we will radiate these forces out into society through our moral words and deeds of brotherly love.

Rudolf Steiner's verses for the 52 weeks of the calendar are here on our website, together with Rudolf Steiner's original German text and several other translations: Rudolf Steiner, The Calendar of the Soul.
