The Bodhisattva Question
by Elisabeth Vreede

Translated by Candeur Manusripts

Introductory Remarks to the Lectures

The text of the first of these two lectures has been put together on the basis of an extensive, although perhaps not quite exact, shorthand report. For the second lecture, a shorthand report was unfortunately not available. I worked out the text with the aid of my own very extensive notes that lay before me during the course of the lecture; and with the aid of an extremely inadequate summary of the lecture that had been brought to my attention, I checked myself as to the sequence of what was said and as to the content actually brought forward. Whatever was in my notes that was not mentioned in the summary, and which during the lecture I most probably left out, I have included, but put into brackets.

Through this kind of reworking, it follows naturally that in the text of the second lecture, the literary style predominates, while in the first I have held as exactly as possible to the spoken word.
