The first appeared in 1879 under the title: "Human, All Too Human. A Book for Free Spirits. Appendix: Miscellaneous Opinions and Sayings,“ the second in 1880. Both sections were combined in 1886 into a single volume, which was provided with an introductory preface and bore the title: ”Human, All Too Human. A Book for Free Spirits. Volume 2.
