[ 1 ] Über Reinkarnation.

[ 1 ] About reincarnation.

[ 2 ] In Wahrheit ist die Reinkarnationslehre eine uralte Lehre in den Geheimschulen. Erst verhältnismäßig spät ist sie in die Schriften übergegangen. Sie gehört zu den elementarsten Lehren der Welt. Die Vorgänge der Reinkarnation selbst sind nicht so einfach. (Siehe die Ausführungen Rudolf Steiners über die Ätherleiber der Rishis und so weiter.)

[ 2 ] In truth, the doctrine of reincarnation is an ancient teaching in the secret schools. It was only relatively late that it found its way into the written texts. It is one of the most fundamental teachings in the world. The processes of reincarnation themselves are not so simple. (See Rudolf Steiner’s remarks on the etheric bodies of the Rishis and so on.)

[ 3 ] Das Wiedererscheinen des Ich wurde sorgsam unter den Geheimnissen gehütet. In den Kindheitsjahren der theosophischen Bewegung konnte man sonderbare Dinge in bezug auf Reinkarnation hören; da kam es vor, daß im Kaffeehause an einem Tische Wiederverkörperungen vom Kaiser Josef, Seneca und so weiter saßen! Diese Dinge wirken sehr verwirrend. Man soll sich in bezug auf sie das Gefühl anerziehen: «Ich empfange viele Ideen, kann aber nicht tief genug schürfen, um sie zu verstehen. Ich verstehe eigentlich noch gar nichts!» Es ist der beste Impuls, Scheu zu haben, ein abgeschlossenes Urteil sich zu bilden.

[ 3 ] The reappearance of the I was carefully guarded as a secret. In the early years of the Theosophical Movement, one could hear strange things about reincarnation; it even happened that reincarnations of Emperor Joseph, Seneca, and so on were sitting at a table in a coffeehouse! These things are very confusing. One should cultivate the following attitude toward them: “I receive many ideas, but I cannot delve deeply enough to understand them. I actually don’t understand anything yet!” The best impulse is to be wary of forming a definitive judgment.

[ 5 ] Im Buche Hiob rät Hiobs Frau ihm, daß er nicht gut bleiben soll. Eine Wendung kommt da vor: «Verleugne Gott und stirb.» Diese Worte schließen eine Welt in sich. Wir verstehen sie nur, wenn wir wissen, was unter «Vereinigung mit Gott» verstanden wurde. Es ist die Möglichkeit eines Lebens, das nicht auslöschbar ist durch den Tod, wenn die Vereinigung ergriffen ist.

[ 5 ] In the Book of Job, Job’s wife advises him not to remain righteous. A phrase appears there: “Curse God and die.” These words contain a world within them. We can only understand them if we know what was meant by “union with God.” It is the possibility of a life that cannot be extinguished by death once that union has been attained.

[ 6 ] Mit Sterben ist nicht der materielle Vorgang gemeint; man muß mit anderen Gefühlsnuancen an dieses Wort herantreten. Paulus sagt einmal: Da kam das Gesetz, und ich starb. - Wir müssen uns da klar machen, was der Gesetzesbegriff bedeutet. Unter Tod ist verstanden die Abtrennung von dem, was untötbar ist.

[ 6 ] “Death” here does not refer to a physical process; one must approach this word with a different emotional nuance. Paul once said: “Then the law came, and I died.”—We must understand what the concept of ‘law’ means here. “Death” is understood to mean separation from that which is immortal.

[ 7 ] In gewissen Zeiten verstand man darunter das Untertauchen des Bewußtseins der Seele in einen niederen Zustand: Wenn die Seele in die Verkörperung eintaucht, taucht sie in Verfinsterung des Bewußtseins.

[ 7 ] In certain periods, this was understood to mean the soul’s descent into a lower state of consciousness: when the soul enters into incarnation, it descends into a state of obscured consciousness.

[ 8 ] Die Seele kann ein solches Leben führen, daß sie nie wieder in die Verdunkelung eintreten muß. Die Verdunkelung ist der Tod, der für sie bei der Geburt des Körpers eintritt. Die Seelen, die nichts für sich tun, treten in diesen Wiedertod ein, das heißt Wiederverkörperung.

[ 8 ] The soul can lead a life such that it never again has to enter into obscurity. Obscurity is the death that befalls it at the birth of the body. Souls that do nothing for themselves enter into this “second death,” that is, reincarnation.

[ 9 ] Es ist der Wille der Meister, scharf aufzuzeigen, wie das moderne Denken mangelhaft ist und unbeweglich und so unendlich weit abliegt von dem wahren Tatsachenbestand.

[ 9 ] It is the will of the Masters to sharply point out how flawed and inflexible modern thinking is, and how infinitely far removed it is from the true state of affairs.

[ 10 ] Nicht nur das ist christliche Liebe, die denen hilft, die in einen Irrtum verfallen sind, sondern es gibt eine aktive christliche Liebe, welche die anderen vor Mißverständnissen bewahrt. In der orientaliischen Weisheit gibt es eine so tiefe Erkenntnistheorie, daß wir mit unserem Kantschen Materialismus gar nicht daran hinkönnen. Wenn wir zur reinen Erkenntnislehre durchdringen, müssen wir sagen: Ohne Auge kein Licht - also ist die Welt unsere Vorstellung. Aber ohne Licht auch kein Auge! Es ist kein Zufall, daß es das Licht wahrnimmt, denn das Licht ist Schöpfer des Auges: Aus dem Licht ist das Auge geboren. Die Objektivierung des Lichtes ist die Sonne. Okkult entspricht im Makrokosmos die Sonne dem Auge im Mikrokosmos. Ebenso entsprechen sich Stimme (mikrokosmisch) und Feuer (makrokosmisch). Die Entstehung der geformten Materie ist richtig zu vergleichen mit der Formung der Klang- oder Tonfiguren. Das sind nachbildliche Vorgänge der Urvorgänge. Form ist in der Materie starr gewordener Ton. Der Ton mußte durch das Urfeuer erst hindurchschlagen. Mineralische, tierische Welt, kurz alles ist Ton (der durch das Feuer hindurchgeschlagen ist). Mikrokosmisch pulsiert das Feuer in der Blutwärme. Indem das Feuer im Blut seinen Ausdruck findet, erklingt mikrokosmisch der Ton von innen heraus (die Stimme) und entspricht der aus dem Logos sich herausformenden Materie.

[ 10 ] Christian love is not only that which helps those who have fallen into error, but there is also an active Christian love that protects others from misunderstandings. Oriental wisdom contains such a profound theory of knowledge that our Kantian materialism cannot even begin to grasp it. When we penetrate to the pure theory of knowledge, we must say: Without an eye, there is no light—thus the world is our conception. But without light, there is no eye either! It is no coincidence that the eye perceives light, for light is the creator of the eye: the eye is born of light. The objectification of light is the sun. Occultly, in the macrocosm, the sun corresponds to the eye in the microcosm. Likewise, voice (microcosmic) and fire (macrocosmic) correspond to one another. The emergence of formed matter can rightly be compared to the shaping of sound or tonal figures. These are imitative processes of the primordial processes. Form is sound that has become rigid in matter. The clay first had to pass through the primal fire. The mineral and animal worlds—in short, everything—is clay (that has passed through the fire). In the microcosm, the fire pulsates in the warmth of the blood. As the fire finds its expression in the blood, the sound resounds microcosmically from within (the voice) and corresponds to the matter forming out of the Logos.

[ 11 ] Die Urweltweisheit ist weiser als das im Laufe der Welt entstandene Denken. Die Weisheit, die in den Dingen um uns herum ist, wurde ihnen eingeprägt auf dem Monde. Die Aufgabe der Erde ist die Entwickelung der Liebe. Auf dem Jupiter wird die Liebe uns aus allem entgegenduften. Die Erdenentwickelung ist notwendig, um auf dem Jupiter die Liebe von innen zu finden. Auf dem Monde haben wir als Pole : Weisheit — Irrtum; auf der Erde: Liebe — Egoismus.

[ 11 ] Primordial wisdom is wiser than the thinking that has developed over the course of the world. The wisdom that exists in the things around us was imprinted upon them on the Moon. The Earth’s task is the development of love. On Jupiter, love will emanate from everything around us. Earth’s development is necessary in order to find love from within on Jupiter. On the Moon, we have as poles: wisdom—error; on Earth: love—egoism.

[ 12 ] Saturn — Feuer Sonne - Luft (Gas) Mond - Wasser Erde — Erde (fest).

[ 13 ] Wasserund LuftkamenbeiderErdenentwickelungin ein selbständiges Verhältnis zueinander. Alles ist aus den vier Elementen verdichtet. Verdunstetes Wasser steht in inniger Verwandtschaft mit den Pflanzen. Wir können heute nur die unorganischen Kräfte (zum Beispiel Kohlen und so weiter) verwenden, während der Atlantier mit Pflanzenkräften arbeitete. Er wußte die Kräfte aus dem Samenkorn herauszuziehen und bewegte damit seine Fahrzeuge. Die Kräfte des Pflanzensamens sind aus Luft und Wasser geboren. Es hängt aber von der Moral des Menschen ab, wie er diese Kräfte in Szene setzt. Wind und Wetter standen in engem Zusammenhang damit. Waren die Kräfte gut verwendet, so waren Wind und Wetter auch gut. Als die Atlantier böse wurden, riefen sie selbst die Katastrophe der Sintflut hervor.

[ 13 ] Water and air came into an independent relationship with one another during the Earth's development. Everything is condensed from the four elements. Evaporated water is intimately related to plants. Today we can only use inorganic forces (such as coal and so on), whereas the Atlanteans worked with plant forces. They knew how to draw the forces out of the seed and used them to power their vehicles. The forces of the plant seed are born of air and water. However, it depends on human morality how these forces are utilized. Wind and weather were closely connected to this. If the forces were used well, then wind and weather were also favorable. When the Atlanteans turned to evil, they themselves brought about the catastrophe of the Flood.

[ 14 ] In ähnlicher Weise waren Feuer und Erde in Zusammenhang für eine gewisse Zeit (Lemurien). Diese Elemente können sich in verschiedenster Weise verschlingen.

[ 14 ] Similarly, fire and earth were connected for a certain period of time (Lemuria). These elements can intertwine in a variety of ways.

[ 15 ] Man kann eine Vorstellung vom dreidimensionalen Raum haben. In der platonischen Schule ist ein wichtiger Lehrsatz: Gott geometrisiert. Geometrische Grundbegriffe wecken hellseherische Fähigkeiten. In der Geometrie der Lage wird bewiesen, daß überall im Umkreis derselbe Punkt ist: Der unendlich ferne Punkt rechts ist derselbe wie der Ausgangspunkt links. Das heißt, letzten Endes ist die Welt eine Kugel, man kommt an den Ausgangspunkt zurück. Wenn ich geometrische Lehrsätze nehme, gehen sie über in Grenzbegriffe. Der dreidimensionale Raum erreicht seinen Punkt wieder. Deshalb wirkt im Astralen Punkt a auf Punkt b ohne Verbindung.

[ 15 ] One can form a conception of three-dimensional space. An important tenet of the Platonic school is: God geometers. Basic geometric concepts awaken clairvoyant abilities. In the geometry of position, it is proven that the same point exists everywhere within the circumference: The infinitely distant point on the right is the same as the starting point on the left. This means that, ultimately, the world is a sphere; one returns to the starting point. When I take geometric theorems, they transition into limit concepts. Three-dimensional space returns to its point. Therefore, in the astral, point a acts upon point b without a connection.

[ 16 ] Man führt den Materialismus in die Theosophie ein, wenn man, um ins Geistige zu gelangen, annimmt, daß die Materie immer dünner und dünner wird. Dadurch kommt man nicht ins Geistige. Sondern durch solche Vorstellungen wie Punkt a = Punkt b kommt man auf Vorstellungen der vierten Dimension.

[ 16 ] Materialism is introduced into theosophy when, in an attempt to reach the spiritual realm, one assumes that matter becomes thinner and thinner. This does not lead to the spiritual realm. Rather, through concepts such as “point a = point b,” one arrives at concepts of the fourth dimension.

[ 18 ] Über die Zahl 40. «Eins aus dem Ei» — was heißt das? Man schreibt es so: 10. Der Exoteriker liest das als Zehn, der Esoteriker: «Eins aus dem Ei.»

[ 18 ] On the number 40. “One from the egg”—what does that mean? It is written this way: 10. The exotericist reads it as ten; the esotericist reads it as “one from the egg.”

[ 19 ] Denken Sie sich irgendeinen Entwickelungszyklus abgeschlossen, zum Beispiel Saturn, Sonne und Mond wäre fertig und wir wären auf dem Punkte, wo die Erdenentwickelung beginnt. Was der Mensch vom Saturn hat, ist Ei 0 geworden, von der Sonne auch: 0 0, vom Monde ebenfalls: 0 0 0. Nach drei abgeschlossenen Zyklen beginnt nun ein neuer: 1 0 0 0. Dieser macht Unterzyklen durch

[ 19 ] Imagine any evolutionary cycle coming to an end; for example, Saturn, the Sun, and the Moon would be complete, and we would be at the point where Earth’s evolution begins. What humanity has from Saturn has become 0, from the Sun likewise: 0 0, and from the Moon as well: 0 0 0. After three completed cycles, a new one now begins: 1 0 0 0. This cycle goes through subcycles

[ 21 ] Wir können auch in okkulten Schriften schreiben: 4321000. Wenn man in okkulten Schriften von 1000 Jahren spricht, so meint man damit: 3 Zyklen sind aus dem Ei gegangen.

[ 21 ] We can also write 4321000 in occult script. When occult script refers to 1,000 years, it means that 3 cycles have hatched from the egg.

[ 22 ] Dies ist eine okkulte Zahlenlehre, die kosmische Tatsachen wiedergibt. Alles aus dem Kosmos spiegelt sich im physischen und geistigen Leben der Erde wider. In unserem jetzigen Zyklus geht der Mensch über zur Anschauung der äußeren Welt, zu einer Umkehrung alles Anschauens. Da, wo Maja auftritt für das Bewußtsein, ist der 4. Zyklus. Daher ist die 4 die Zahl der Maja und des Kosmos.

[ 22 ] This is an occult numerology that reflects cosmic realities. Everything in the cosmos is mirrored in the physical and spiritual life of the Earth. In our current cycle, humanity is transitioning to a perception of the outer world, to a reversal of all perception. Where Maya appears to consciousness, there is the 4th cycle. Therefore, 4 is the number of Maya and of the cosmos.

[ 23 ] Bei allen Vorgängen, wo 4 in der Bibel vorkommt, wird dies oder jenes von Maja überwunden: 40 Tage fasten, 40 Tage wandern bedeuten ein gewisses Überwinden. 40 = 4 aus dem Ei. Wer 40 Tage fastet, muß einen okkulten Zyklus durchgemacht haben. Je primitiver die Bewußtseinszustände sind, desto weniger kann man von Langeweile reden. Diese schwindet, je mehr wir in den Bewußtseinszuständen zurückgehen.

[ 23 ] In all instances where the number 4 appears in the Bible, it signifies the overcoming of something: fasting for 40 days or wandering for 40 days represents a certain kind of overcoming. 40 = 4 hatching from an egg. Anyone who fasts for 40 days must have gone through an occult cycle. The more primitive the states of consciousness are, the less one can speak of boredom. This fades the further back we go in the states of consciousness.

[ 24 ] Entwickelung setzt keinen Anfang und kein Ende voraus. Entwikkelung verläuft in Zyklen ohne Wiederholung, immer Neues wird eingefügt im zyklischen Fortschritt. Endlicher Anfang oder Ende ist ein Majaschluß, abstrahiert von sinnlichen Vorgängen.

[ 24 ] Development does not presuppose a beginning or an end. Development proceeds in cycles without repetition; something new is always introduced in this cyclical progression. A finite beginning or end is a false conclusion, abstracted from sensory processes.

Entwickelung des Teiles = Geschöpf,
Entwickelung des Ganzen = Gott,
ist eine falsche Voraussetzung. Beispiel: Vater — Sohn.

The development of the part = the creature,
The development of the whole = God,
is a false premise. Example: Father — Son.

[ 25 ] Die Planeten Saturn, Jupiter, Mars sind zurückgeblieben vor Abspaltung der Sonne. Merkur und Venus trennten sich von der Sonne nach der Erdabtrennung, um höheren Wesenheiten Wohnplätze zu schaffen.

[ 25 ] The planets Saturn, Jupiter, and Mars remained behind before the Sun split off. Mercury and Venus separated from the Sun after Earth’s separation in order to create dwelling places for higher beings.

[ 26 ] Die Marskanäle können wir uns durch die germanische Mythologie erklären: Die germanische Mythologie gibt frühere Zustände der Erde wieder. In der früheren Dünnheit der Materie spielten sich regelmäßige Vorgänge ab, die jetzt unregelmäßig geworden sind: zum Beispiel die zwölf Ströme, die Feuerfunken und so weiter; das waren Entwickelungsvorgänge auf der Erde. Auf dem Mars ist dasselbe: Die Kanalbildung ist ein noch erhaltener, festgehaltener Zustand, den unsere Erde auch durchmachte.

[ 26 ] We can explain the Martian canals through Germanic mythology: Germanic mythology reflects earlier states of the Earth. In the earlier, more ethereal state of matter, regular processes took place that have now become irregular: for example, the twelve streams, the sparks of fire, and so on; these were developmental processes on Earth. The same is true on Mars: the formation of the canals is a state that has been preserved and fixed, one that our Earth also underwent.

[ 27 ] Der Mensch erhält für sich die Aufgabe, zur Freiheit zu kommen; er kann aus allen Hierarchien Kräfte entwickeln, zum Beispiel aus den Engeln Manas, aus den Erzengeln Budhi und so weiter. Durch seine Entwickelung wird möglich, daß dann höhere Hierarchien hereinwirken; gerade dadurch entwickelt er sich weiter. Der Mensch enthält alle Hierarchien in sich als Mikrokosmos.

[ 27 ] Human beings are given the task of attaining freedom; they can draw strength from all hierarchies, for example from the angels of Manas, from the archangels of Budhi, and so on. Through their development, it becomes possible for higher hierarchies to influence them; it is precisely through this that they continue to develop. Human beings contain all hierarchies within themselves as a microcosm.

[ 28 ] Bei der Erdenentwickelung wiederholt sich alles. Wo der Mars heute ist, war die Erde im Mondenentwickelungszustand. Auf der Erde wiederholt: Durchgang des Mars.

[ 28 ] Everything repeats itself in the Earth's evolution. The Earth was in the lunar stage of development where Mars is today. On Earth, this repeats: the passage of Mars.
