Carrying Rudolf Steiner's legacy forward

In honor of the 100th anniversary of Rudolf Steiner's death, we have made nearly the full corpus of his life's work searchable online in English so it may enliven the spirit of people world-wide. Nowhere else is Dr. Steiner's legacy so completely chronicled telling the story of his life and travels through published books, lectures, articles, and correspondence. His mission to bring spirit into matter shines through his work. We now offer nearly all of Steiner's written works, transcribed talks and addresses, personal letters, and other supporting documentation pertaining to the Anthroposophical Society and his other initiatives. Most of the new documents are the only English translations available. People who are not proficient in English or German can also use our standard Translation Tool to read the material in almost any language.

Our task entailed adding thousands of new English translations bringing our total to more than 7,500 documents. Like modern research institutions, education establishments, libraries, and professional translators, we use leading translation software customized with Rudolf Steiner's anthroposophical terminology, Steiner's phraseology, and German expressions and names from the turn of the century. This is an important step toward bringing this spiritual information into the modern era. Now everyone can search Rudolf Steiner's teachings on any topic through our website as well as through popular search engines, thereby reaching a wider audience. If questions arise about the translation of a specific word or section, one can seamlessly compare it to the German text. We will continue to review and improve our translations over time. We hope you will view this as a community effort and submit proposed changes to [email protected].

In Memorium

Rudolf Steiner Memorial

In the August 1925 issue of the Anthroposophy newsletter, a powerful memorial to Rudolf Steiner was published by D.N. Dunlop entitled In Memoriam. It begins with the shy child who was intensely loved by a few teachers "without, however, understanding the might of the being incarnate there before them" and concludes with this call for humanity to carry his mission forth.

[B]ehind the grief that befell us on that March day when the Gates of Death swung open for the spirit we knew as Rudolf Steiner, we could hear the echoes of the trumpets that were sounding for him on ‘the other side’. The hosts of heaven were welcoming him back to the regions which he left for six short decades because he had been mindful of the cries that went up to him from the Earth. The Michael-Wisdom which he proclaimed must now be wrested from the spiritual world and made real in the physical world by us. We must storm the Kingdom of Heaven with our human forces that he made more strong, if his earth mission is not to be in vain. Mighty he was in life, but he may yet be mightier in death if our hearts are strong enough to beat to the sun-rhythm that is his rhythm, if our will is strong enough to embody his will in act.

This new addition to our collection also includes the announcement of Steiner's death by Harry Collison, the then-acting Secretary General of the Anthroposophical Society in Great Britain, and memorials highlighting his educational work, Steiner as an artist, his life as a Man, and an illustration in remembrance of the First Goetheanum. Spirit of my space on earth,
Reveal the light of thine age
To the Christ-endowed soul,
That striving it may find
In harmony of spheres of peace
Thee ringing with praise and power
Of mind of man all given up to Christ.

—Rudolf Steiner, September 1, 1914
