212. The Human Soul in Relation to World Evolution: The Elementary World and its Beings 28 May 1922, Dornach
Translated by Rita Stebbing

[ 51 ] The objectified synthesis of all European philosophy emerges: the doctrine of the polarity of contrasts and their central resolution and balance—creative indifference. This means a revolution of the entire human standpoint.
204. Materialism and the Task of Anthroposophy: Lecture XII 01 May 1921, Dornach
Translated by Maria St. Goar

Therefore, in Romanism, we have on the one hand something that turns into the modern state inasmuch as the legal principle itself rebels and brings about its own polarity, so to speak, in the French Revolution; on the other hand, we have the outdated Ormuzd worship.
181. Anthroposophical Life Gifts: Lecture VI 14 May 1918, Berlin
Translator Unknown

But these two currents of force are just as much a polarity for the human soul as positive and negative magnetism or electricity in the physical. If we wish to understand humanity in its development we must take the trouble to observe what is at work in regard to the Luciferic and Ahrimanic element in life.
325. Natural Science and the Historical Development of Humanity: Lecture II 22 May 1921, Stuttgart
Translated by Hanna von Maltitz

Why did men forsake the old standpoint so that they could no longer distinguish the spiritually light from the physically dark and for what reason did they go over to the conception of so opposite an idea as that of polarity or duality? When we realize what is to be found in documents and when we let the feeling which lies in these documents and in their tradition act upon our souls, we come to the knowledge that in those olden times men played little part in the outer world.
75. The Relationship between Anthroposophy and the Natural Sciences: Agnosticism in Science and Anthroposophy 11 May 1922, Leipzig

By observing the processes in our human organism in such a way that we recognize one polarity as an organization that is designed for breakdown and the other polarity as one that cannot be affected by this breakdown in a healthy state, we learn to see through these two aspects in inspired knowledge.
184. Three Streams in Human Evolution: Lecture V 12 Oct 1918, Dornach
Translated by Charles Davy

Through supersensible perception of that which is fulfilled in the course of time, this polarity is revealed between the year of the birth of Christ Jesus and the year 666. But now let us look in external history for knowledge of this; let us ask external history if anywhere it confirms that such a thing has actually happened.
300b. Faculty Meetings with Rudolf Steiner II: Thirty-Eighth Meeting 15 Oct 1922, Stuttgart
Translated by Ruth Pusch, Gertrude Teutsch

There was nothing for me to decide, since I could not go so far as to make the students into teachers. The problem was a polarity, teachers or students. That became grotesquely apparent. Things slid so far that the students themselves spoke about the teachers speaking to them differently as teachers and as human beings.
306. The Child's Changing Consciousness and Waldorf Education: Lecture III 17 Apr 1923, Dornach
Translated by Roland Everett

This all comes together in the breathing process, which has a rhythmical nature, in order to work back again finally into the nerve-sense process. These are the two polarities in human nature. The nerve-sense system on the one hand, the metabolic-limb system on the other, with the rhythmic system in between.
306. The Child's Changing Consciousness and Waldorf Education: Lecture VIII 22 Apr 1923, Dornach
Translated by Roland Everett

And since the human organism, from the head downward, is so active during these early years—that is, from the polarity of the nerve-sense system—and because abnormal conditions can easily override socalled normal conditions in the head region, the child is particularly vulnerable to childhood diseases at just this age.
178. The Reappearance of Christ in the Etheric: Individual Spirit Beings I 18 Nov 1917, Dornach
Translated by Barbara Betteridge, Ruth Pusch, Diane Tatum, Alice Wuslin, Margaret Ingram de Ris

We know that since the middle of the nineteenth century this materialism has reached its climax. In reality, however, polarities must converge. It is exactly this climax of materialism within the evolution of humanity that must converge with the intensification in human evolution that leads to truly beholding Christ in the etheric.
