94. Theosophy Based on the Gospel of John: First Lecture 27 Oct 1906, Berlin

Rudolf Steiner
From this astral body, the body born of the stars, the ego is now born. What can be heard as the keynote of the movement of the stars in the universe is called the Pythagorean music of the spheres.
71b. The Human Being as a Spirit and Soul Being: The Supernatural Man and the Questions of Free Will and Soul Immortality 11 May 1918, Leipzig

Rudolf Steiner
It discovers deeper qualities that escape the other person when they immerse themselves in the other, forgetting themselves and their egos. Connected with this love is the fact that one cannot fall into the trap of which selfish love so easily falls: wanting to reform the loved one, criticizing them, wanting to remodel them.
61. Good Fortune 07 Dec 1911, Berlin
Tr. R. H. Bruce

Rudolf Steiner
It becomes clear to us now why it is impossible for a man to connect his fortune with his ego, with his individuality. Yet, even if he cannot directly connect it with his ego as external happenings that approach him and raise his existence, he can, nevertheless, so transform it within himself, that what was originally external semblance becomes inner reality.
57. Tolstoy and Carnegie in the Light of Spiritual Science 28 Jan 1909, Berlin

Rudolf Steiner
Something is there that was there before birth and is there after birth, my particular ego. This my particular ego has not begun with birth. It is not the point that anybody positions himself with the west-European habits to such a remark, but it matters that one has the sensation: one can do such a remark.
54. Inner Development 07 Dec 1905, Berlin

Rudolf Steiner
We can never profit anything from our own selfish ego for our higher self. Where anybody is who has farther advanced than I have, there I am in the future.
There the human being has no consciousness of his ego, and the fourth state is that in which the human being lives in his memory. This is different from perception; this is something abstract, spiritual.
157. Esoteric Development: The Three Decisions on the Path of Imaginative Cognition 02 Mar 1915, Berlin
Tr. Gertrude Teutsch, Olin D. Wannamaker, Diane Tatum, Alice Wuslin

Rudolf Steiner
But one knows: whereas in physical life one is an Ego, adding one thought to another, in that other state one swims, as it were, in one thought and then over to another; one is united with the thoughts; then one is within a third and then swims away from it.
We now actually live and weave within the thoughts themselves. We know that the Ego is not dead, it is weaving in the web of thoughts, but although we are living within the thoughts, we cannot immediately be their master; the thoughts form themselves and we are drawn along with them.
63. The Spiritual World and Spiritual Science. Views and Aims of the Present 30 Oct 1913, Berlin

Rudolf Steiner
Someone who would not know in a great measure how his self-consciousness, his ego has behaved during the past years, so that he, looking back, would not recognise that he has experienced it, for someone to whom the ego would always be a new experience would have no healthy soul life.
63. Spiritual Science and Religious Faith 20 Nov 1913, Berlin

Rudolf Steiner
Then he experiences the spiritual beings and processes, which send their impulses in the human astral body, which one can experience, however, in their true being only if the human ego has become completely independent. Then one experiences what those human beings have indicated as the greatest who tried to penetrate from their point of view into these depths of the human being.
Thus, in the climax of the human soul development it becomes obvious that Intuition is the life in the ego as the religious life is the life in the astral body as the artistic view is the life in the etheric body, and as the sensory percipience is the life in the physical body.
74. The Redemption of Thinking (1956): Lecture III 24 May 1920, Dornach
Tr. Alan P. Shepherd, Mildred Robertson Nicoll

Rudolf Steiner
Thus, Fichte wanted to get everything that Kant had determined as an illusory world or as a world of appearances from the real creative ego that he imagined, however, to be rooted in the being of the world. Fichte was urged to strive for a more intensive, to a more and more mystic experience of the soul to get beyond Kantianism.
You elated name, you do not have anything of flattery with yourself but strict submission” -, with the transformed ego which develops up into the sphere of spirituality and starts there loving virtue, and, therefore, practises virtue because it loves it out of individuality.
173b. The Karma of Untruthfulness I: Lecture IX 24 Dec 1916, Dornach
Tr. Johanna Collis

Rudolf Steiner
But even in the transition from the third to the fourth there was a step forward in human consciousness towards increased ego-consciousness, increased waking consciousness. The ancient dream visions of the spiritual world have disappeared.
Baldur is one of the Aesir, that is, he was one of the ruling spiritual powers at a time when man had already awakened to ego-consciousness. The Vanir had already faded, and yet Baldur remains as a representative of that being who was to become king, the first-born who came every three years.
